The fire started in the January of 2019. It got worse in July-August due to a longer dry season and higher temperatures. The fire has burned 2,240,000 acres so far and who knows how much more it will burn. The Amazon is home to 10 percent of animal species and are going extinct everyday. If the fire stopped burning it will take the forest about 20 years to grow back and recover. If the fire is still going and the Amazon disappears it will increase climate change and it will no longer be a source of oxygen. Instead of giving us oxygen it will be giving out carbon which will effect the air we breathe. The forest is half of the tropics and somewhat less which means that 12 percent of our oxygen comes from there.
The Amazon rainforest is a very important forest because it provides 12% of the oxygen we breathe. It is also the home of a lot of different animal species. There’s animals that we have never seen before and because of this fire they are going extinct. It’s not only a home to animals but for people too. If the fire doesn’t go out and burns all of the forest it would affect climate change and mess up the air we breathe. This can pollute the air which can cause sickness and death.
The Amazon Fire is one cause of global warming. Global warming is a gradual increase in the temperature of earth’s atmosphere. It’s a major feature in climate change. This means that the fires that are happening right now are a cause. The smoke that factories let out, which is pollution to the air, is another cause. The effects of global warming are pretty bad. They include a rise in temperature, rising sea levels, expansion in deserts and change of precipitation.
We can help put the fire to an end by getting political. Writing to representatives about what’s happening to the environment can help. Voting for someone who is willing to help the environment. Because we can’t vote in Brazil we can vote for someone who would raise money and donate it to Brazil to help them put out the fire. If we can get everyone to vote for someone like that there might be a difference. The president we have right now will not do anything to help. Why? Because he doesn’t care. He only wants what’s best for our country, but what about outside of the country? The air that we are breathing right now is bad and can cause death. If the government won’t do anything about it then we have to do something about it even if it means getting hurt or in trouble.
I chose this topic because I feel like it doesn’t get talked about enough. No one really mentions it because it’s never on the news, people only care about what’s happening with celebrities, or what the latest trend is. So maybe if people visit this website they’ll see that the fire is a big deal. Maybe someone will start an organization to help the Amazon or who knows. I also chose this topic because I thought it would be an easy topic to talk about.
